Bhubaneswar, Jun 8 : At least 50 National Disaster Response Force (NDRF) jawans of 3rd Battalion based at Mundali in Odisha’s Cuttack district have tested Covid-19 positive. As many as 167 NDRF jawans had recently deputed to Kolkata to help the West Bengal government there in the relief and rescue operation in the areas battered by the severe cyclonic storm Amphan. On their return from West Bengal, the NDRF jawans were put in institutional quarantine.
On June 6, one of their colleagues, had tested covid positive and was shifted to covid hospital. Today another 49 jawans were also tested positive, official sources said . Along with the NDRF jawans, a team of Odisha Fire Services personnel comprising 372 members has returned to the state on last Friday after performing 12 days hard work in the Cyclone Amphan ravaged Kolkata and Howrah. All the fire services personnel were also put in14 days institutional quarantine as per Government protocol and accommodated in Krupajal Engineering College Campus, Bhubaneswar and at Revenue Officers Training Institute, Gothapatna Road.
