Kolkata, Jun 03 : Worried over the economic hardship of unimaginable proportions facing the people due to the ongoing pandemic, Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee on Wednesday appealed to the Centre to transfer ₹10,000 each as one-time assistance to migrant labourers, including people in the unorganised sector. Taking to her twitter handle, Ms Banerjee said, " People have been facing economic hardship of unimaginable proportions bcz of the ongoing pandemic. "
" I appeal to the Central Govt to transfer ₹10,000 each as one-time assistance to migrant labourers including people in the unorganized sector, " she added. " A portion of PM-CARES could be used for this, " she stated. With the state witnessing the highest number of 396 new confirmed Covid-19 cases as well as the highest number of fatalities of ten on a single day yesterday, this has been a week of spurt in the number of cases in Bengal.
The state recorded an average of 300 cases in the past few days everyday with 271 new cases on June 1, 371 on May 31, 317 on May 30, 277 on May 29, 344 on May 28, 183 on May 27 and 193 on May 26. Yesterday while the highest number of 396 people tested positive on a single day taking the total number of confirmed cases to 6168, ten more persons died, taking the total number of COVID19 toll to 263. Another 72 deaths of COVID-19 positive cases took place due to comorbidity. The number of active cases in the state accounted for 3,423.
On Tuesday, 104 more persons were discharged from hospitals, taking the count to 2410 at the rate of 39.04 per cent. Altogether 9,495 samples were tested yesterday taking the total number of samples tested to 2,22,726 with the percentage of positive cases out of the samples tested being 2.77 per cent. (UNI)
