Digha (East Midnapore), May 19 : A silent, sombre frothy Digha awaits with a palpitated heart the unwelcome lashing of Amphan on the seashore with a speed between 165 and 175km/h in the next 24hours. The severe cyclonic storm has a devastating capacity of large scale destruction of the coastal areas of the district, authorities are worried here.
District Magistrate Partha Ghosh says that a group of National Disaster Rescue Force reached here and started rescuing and removing them from low lying places. As because no fisherman are in the sea due to a-3-month moratorium in fishing there is no problem with them. All Flood Centres have been visited and all Blocks alerted. The DM also apprehends that 3-6 metres high sea waves may lash the sea dykes at different points. Meanwhile, farmers in West Midnapore district have started cutting their standing boro crops to minimize losses. (UNI)
