Innovative gloves & PPE on anvil to fight Covid-19

Kolkata, May 7: In this prevailing extreme medical crisis, scientists all over the world are trying to get an antidote to control Coronavirus. India is also not lacking in its effort in joining the world community. When the top medical scientists are exploring avenues to control, combat or contain the disease at that point of time, innovators of small towns are coming out with big ideas in the same direction.

One such example is Biswarup Neogi of JIS College of Engineering, Kalyani in West Bengal and his student Sankha Dey who developed a corona protective gloves, an official of PIB Sandipon Dasgupta said Dr Neogi first conceptualised this idea and guided his student Sankha Dey to develop these gloves. Neogi said, “With each passing day our medical resources are reducing and doctors, paramedics and other health staffs are also getting infected with corona virus as they are coming directly in contact with the COVID-19 patients. The crisis emerging due to shortage of doctors and medical staff in this critical situation is the most vital consequence of COVID-19. It is very important to protect these doctors and medical staffs for our society. Hence the idea of inventing these gloves and PPE came to mind.”

He said as per WHO, alcohol has the ability to kill novel Coronavirus by breaking their outer lipid-coat. WHO recommends two formulas: (1) 80% ethanol, 1.45% glycerol, and 0.125% hydrogen peroxide; and (2) 75% 2-propanol, 1.45% glycerol, and 0.125% hydrogen peroxide. On the basis of this concept the present innovation introduces a special type of module that is capable to wet any gloves and other Personal Protective Equipment’s (PPE) upper surface by the formulation in every 20 min. interval, by thrusting the liquid automatically from the embedded container. This time interval is changeable according to requirement. The total weight of these developed gloves are 60-65 gm which is quite convenient for the users. (UNI)
