Kolkata Police intensifies Naka checking to enforce total lockdown; seized Rs 46 lakh

Kolkata, Apr 14: The Kolkata Police today tightened further naka checking across this metropolis and its jurisdiction, immediately after Prime Minister Narendra Modi extended countrywide lockdown till May 3, 2020 to combat dreaded COVID-19 across India.

The city police is also using drones to keep an eye on violation of lockdown and social distancing. About 895 people were arrested till 5 pm on Monday for violation of prohibitory order across the city. The Kolkata Police force is maintaining vigil round the clock to enforce the order. It also sanitised its many quarters, guards, police stations, police housings and traffic guards to keep away the dreaded virus.

During a Naka checking on Howrah Bridge under North Port police station, policemen intercepted two persons with a bag on Scooty and seized some Rs 46.75 lakh. Police said the duo could not render any satisfactory answer. The entire amount was seized and both were arrested. Legal action was being initiated. (UNI)
