Kolkata, Dec 4 : Scuffles happened between the activists of Hindu Jagaran Manch and police at Sealdah area in the city today when the latter stopped a protest rally of the former condemning the shootout at Metiabruz in which a BJP worker was shot at.

Meanwhile, BJP's senior leader Kailash Vijayvargiya has served an ultimatum to West Bengal chief minister Mamata Banerjee demanding if the prime accused in the shootout was not arrested within 24 hours then the saffron brigade would take to the street for bigger agitation.

On Monday, BJP worker Bir Bahadur Singh was shot at in Metiabruz in south Kolkata. The injured Singh was now under treatment at the SSKM Hospital. Mr Vijayvargiya today visited Singh's house and met with the "panicked" family members. He said the attack on the BJP activist was aimed at creating terror among the saffron brigade in Metiabruz.

He said, till today nobody was arrested in the shootout incident. To protest the firing, the Hindu Jagaran Manch today held a short rally from Sealdah in central part of the city. But the police prevented the rally from the NRS Hospital onward on way to Esplanade because it had no permission resulting scuffles between the protesters and law enforcing agency.
