Kolkata, Oct 31: Veteran Communist Party of India (CPI) leader Gurudas Dasgupta passed away here on Thursday after a prolonged illness.
He was 83. A noted trade unionist, Dasgupta was elected to the Rajya Sabha in 1985.
He was also a member of the Lok Sabha from Panskura in 2004 and Ghatal in 2009.
He was elected to Rajya Sabha in 1985, 1988 and then for a third time in 1994. The veteran leader was first elected a member of Lok Sabha in 2004.
Dasgupta was elected as general secretary of All India Trade Union Congress in 2001 and became the elected member of the National Secretariat, CPI in 2004. He is survived by wife and a daughter. (UNI)
