Agency News

Kolkata, Sep 23: Some police personnel were on Monday sustained stone pelting wounds when the policemen blocked the rally of the Akhil Bharatiya Vidyarthi Parishad (ABVP) at Jodhpur Park in south Kolkata.

The rally was on its way to Jadavpur police station near the Jadavpur University to protest the assault on Union minister Babul Supriyo inside the campus on Thursday. Meanwhile, one of the main accused students said he has no regret and his mother was forced to give a statement on his behalf.

Combat police forces on Monday restrained themselves even as they were provoked by hurling stones at them. Police put iron barricades for ABVP's rally from going to the Jadavpur police station to submit a deputation in relations to an alleged assault on BJP MP from Asansol Babul Supriyo and his detention by the students over five hours in the varsity, before Governor Jagdeep Dhankar rescued him.

The students and the teachers at the JU also put up the human chain around the varsity to prevent any rally to come inside the campus.

But the police forces stopped the ABVP rally at the crossings of Jodhpur Park and Salimpur and told the students' leaders to make a delegation and submit their memorandum to the Jadavpur police station.

The ABVP rally, which began from GolPark was stopped at the Jodhpur Park even as some scuffles happened where some policemen sustained wounds due to stone-pelting. (UNI)
