Fire at HPL’s naptha unit in Haldia, 10 fire fighting engines pressed

Haldia, Sep 20 : A major fire broke out at the naptha unit of the Haldia Petrochemicals Limited (HPL) in East Medinipur on Friday, official sources said.

Altogether ten fire fighters have been pressed into service to douse the blaze. A preliminary but unconfirmed report said 4/5 people were being trapped in the fire, which was noticed at around 11 AM at the naptha unit of the HPL, the petrochem hub of West Bengal.

Sources said besides the fire fighting unit of the HPL, fire combat vehicles from nearby industrial houses have rushed to combat the leaping flames with plumes of smoke billowing all over.

However, no casualty has been reported so far. More details are awaited. (UNI)
