Kolkata, Sep 15 : Giving a clarion call to once again pledge to safeguard the constitutional values the country was founded on, West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee on Sunday said, " We must do all it takes to protect the rights and freedoms that our Constitution guarantees. "
Taking to her Twitter handle on the occasion of International Day of Democracy, Ms Banerjee said, " On the #InternationalDayofDemocracy today, let us once again pledge to safeguard the constitutional values our country was founded on. "
" In this era of 'Super Emergency', we must do all it takes to protect the rights and freedoms that our Constitution guarantees, " she iterated. The "International Day of Democracy" is an opportunity to urge all governments to respect their citizens' right to active, substantive and meaningful participation in democracy.
The "International Day of Democracy" is an opportunity to recall that democracy is about people. Democracy is built on inclusion, equal treatment and participation and it is a fundamental building block for peace, sustainable development and human rights. (UNI)
