Bengal BJP MP Arjun Singh injured during clash with TMC workers

Barrackpore, Sep 01 : Violence gripped volatile Jagatdal-Bhatpara area in Bengal once again as BJP MP Arjun Singh on Sunday survived an attack on his life at Shyamnagar under Jagaddal Police Station in North 24 Parganas.

Mr Singh injured his forehead and underwent some stitches after clashes broke out between the TMC and saffron brigade triggering tension in the area.Reinforcement was deployed to bring the situation under control there.Mr Singh, who was rushed to a nearby hospital and had some stitches on his left forehead, accused the ruling Trinamool Congress of orchestrating the murderous attempt on him, saying he was saved due to protection by the central forces.

The BJP MP was thereafter rushed to a private hospital in Kolkata. Eyewitnesses said stones were creating a dent on his left forehead.Mr Singh said he was going to attend a blood donation camp at Mohanpur when he was called by his party supporters after the alleged TMC workers forcefully occupied a BJP office at Feeder Road in Shyamnagar under Jagaddalpur police station.

He alleged that as he reached there, his car was vandalised in presence of police, which also connived with the ruling party for occupying BJP office.

Unconfirmed sources said rival party workers also indulged in rampant bombing and firing. Police used batons and also allegedly fired in the air to scare away the warring groups. However, police firing was not officially confirmed yet. The clashes also broke out in the neighbouring areas of Kankinara, Bhatpara. (UNI)
