Girl, mastermind in a robbery with Bangladeshi criminals, arrested

Kolkata, Aug 26 : A 22-year-old local girl, said to be the mastermind in a robbery of a household in South 24 Parganas in association with Bangladeshi criminals disguised as the police officials have been arrested along with another accomplish, police investigating the looting said today.

The girl, a resident of Narendrapur, 20 km south of this metropolis, before looting Rs 70,000 in cash and gold ornaments of 130 grams from the house of businessman Arup Dutta in the same locality on August 18, had made several reconnaissances with her boyfriend and Bangladeshi robber Rejaul.

Altogether six persons, three of them in police combat dress, raided the house in the night for looting, but one of the robbers was overpowered by the local people, who handed the criminal to the police. During investigation police so far arrested six persons, three of them Bangladeshi nationals. The girl and the other accused have been arrested on Sunday. However, the boyfriend of a girl was still evading arrest.

The girl, an educated person, had endeared the mother of the businessman by calling her " jethima", who also fell in affection on the neighbourhood girl, whose greed made her criminal and finally got into police custody.

Police said they were initially in double mind about the girl but when the Bangladeshi criminals got into their custody, the mastermind name came to the fore and they arrested the girl, who will be produced before a court in South 24 Parganas today. (UNI)
