Kolkata, Jul 30 : A tiger dragged away a crab catcher in the Sundarbans in South 24 Parganas, a forest official said this morning.
Ironically, the incident occurred on International Tigers' Day yesterday at Rajatjubuli village in the border district. According to the official the big cat pounced on 48-year-old Arjun Mondal and dragged him away by the neck while he was catching crabs in a creek near Sadakkhali forest with two other friends of the village. The friends, identified as Dhruba Mondal and Paritosh Mridha, went after the predator but could not rescue him.
They returned and informed Arjun Mondal's family and the Sajnekhali Range Office. A search was launched but Arjun could not be traced, the official said.Incidentally, this is the third incident of tiger attack on humans in the Sundarbans this month, the official said. (UNI)
