Kolkata, May 14 : The on-going cease work by lawyers to protest police excesses on Howrah district court lawyers which had crippled the judicial functioning across the state for over two weeks was extended today till Monday next.
“ The cease work by lawyers across the state has been extended at a meeting of the West Bengal Bar Council till May 20,” Calcutta High Court’s senior lawyer Kollal Guha Thakurta said.
The cease work had started on April 26 to protest the April 24 clashes between a section of Howrah district court lawyers and Howrah Municipal corporation over parking in the corporation compound.“The council will meet on may 20 to review the situation,” he said. The hearing at the Calcutta High Court on Tuesday in the suo motu case was also adjourned till Wednesday. (UNI)
