Kolkata, May 4: BJP candidate for Bongaon Lok Sabha seat (SC) Santanu Thakur was today injured in a car accident at Hanspur under Gaighata block and admitted to a hospital with head injuries, police and BJP sources said.
Bongaon goes to poll along with six other LS seats for 5th phase voting on Monday.
Santanu Thakur after an electioneering was moving on the car towards the last leg of canvassing at Kalyani when his vehicle met an accident with a private vehicle with "police car sticker" at Hanspur under Gaighata around 1230 hours and sustained serious head wounds.
While the BJP 's high profile candidate was taken to a hospital at Bongaon for admission, his supporters vandalised the police car and blocked Gaighata-Hanspur highway forcing the Rapid Action Force to swing into the action for restoring the order there.
Prime Minister Narendra Modi visited Bongaon and sought blessing from Matua matriarch Binapani Devi early last month when she was alive.
The Bongaon seat has contestants, including TMC sitting candidate Mamata Bala Thakur and Santanu Thakur among others and Congress and CPI(M). (UNI)
