Kolkata, Mar 27 : West Bengal Left Front on Wednesday took strong exception to the reports of TMC’s hooliganism in some Lok Sabha seats including Diamond Harbour seat, and creation of hindrance to the campaign of other political parties.

Meeting with reporters after a meeting of Left Front Constituents in Kolkata, Left Front Chairman Biman Basu said, ''West Bengal Chief minister Mamata Banerjee should take steps to restore democracy in the state, where the current spate of situations firmly points to the country that West Bengal is death bed of Democracy in the country".

He also reiterated the Left’ s promise to withdraw its candidates in the two winning seats of the Congress, In Maldah (South) and Jangipur , if the Congress does vice versa and withdraws its candidates from the two winning seats of the CPI(M).

Mr Basu said, "We had taken the decision not to give candidates in each other’s winning seat, and AICC too announced it , only we later saw Congress backtrack from its promise. This decision had been taken only in the interest of not dividing the anti BJP and anti TMC votes in the state , and as the state is passing through a special situation, where democracy is under serious attack."

He also clarified that “ never has the Left Front spoken about any electoral alliance with the Congress , what we had called for is seat sharing and that too prioritising the deplorable condition of democracy in the state,” he said in Wednesday's press conference in CPI(M) State office.

Mr Basu also alleged that the TMC and the BJP to have hidden understanding , and commented that they are each others’ cohort and deeply interconnected . Otherwise why would she be so worried about BJP’s decision to drop veterans from the Lok Sabha aspirants’ list. (UNI)
