Mamata’s Nephew Named In Kolkata Airport 2kg Gold Seizure Complaint

Once against Kolkata Police figured in the news for saving wife of Mamata Banerjee's nephew Abhishek Banerjee, Rujira Naroola, from the hands of customs officials of in Netaji Subhash Chandra Bose International Airport in Kolkata.

After the CBI-Kolkata police standoff that made national headlines, this is yet another instance at Kolkata airport where the city's police have been reported to be in the news. The untoward incident happened after West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee's nephew Abhishek Banerjee has been named in a complaint filed by the customs department of Netaji Subhash Chandra Bose International Airport.

According to the complaint, Kolkata police allegedly intervened when the wife of Mamata Banerjee's nephew Abhishek Banerjee, Rujira Naroola, was held at the customs counter for allegedly carrying 2-kg gold without declaration. She made a phone call and a team of Kolkata police arrived and escorted her out of the airport.

Kolkata police officials allegedly warned customs officials that they should "release immediately (Rujira Naroola) or face problems".

The complaint also said that Rujira Naroola did not follow any instructions from the customs officials after being asked to show her passport and luggage. Further, the complaint also mentioned that she abused female officials who had come to check her bags.

The customs officials reportedly found over 2 kg gold in the bags. A complaint was filed following this incident which took place on the intervening night of March 15-16, 2019.
