Agency News

Kolkata, Mar 10 : All India Trinamool Congress (AITC) supremo Mamata Banerjee has directed party's North 24 Parganas senior leadership to call an emergency meeting later today with the

Councilors of Bidhannagar Municipality after its Mayor Sabyasachi Dutta had a closed door meeting with BJP leader Mukul Roy on Friday night. Former No 2 TMC leader-turned-BJP leader Mukul Roy claimed that he had courtesy call to Dutta's home on Friday and there was nothing about politics. However, Mr Dutta's conspicuous absence at a TMC's core committee meeting of North 24 Parganas regarding party's election strategy angered Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee after many leaders complaints against Dutta.

Many leaders like district president and minister Jyoti Priya Mallcik, Sujit Bose and many others resented the absence of Dutta and reported the matter to party supremo.

Party insiders said many leaders have been demanding for disciplinary action against Mr Dutta, especially when the Lok Sabha poll going to happen or else wrong message would go to party's rank and files.

Party sources said Ms Banerjee directed the N 24 Parganas leadership to have meeting with Bidhannagar Municipality's party Councilors if they have confidence with their Mayor after his meeting with BJP leader Mukul Roy.

Ms Banerjee has also ordered her senior minister Kolkata Mayor Firhad Hakim to examine disciplinary action against Mr Dutta for his meeting with Mukul Roy.

Mr Hakim said the BJP was begging door to door seeking party candidates for Lok Sabha poll. "BJP is an all India party. It has all the money but no leaders. So they are going around with a begging bowl, asking everyone, will you be our candidate. The current visit is supposed to have been a personal one. Let's see," Urban development minister Firhad Hakim alleged. (UNI)
