Kolkata, Mar 4: A Nigerian national, accused of cheating in the name of the French Consulate, Kolkata, has been arrested from Navi Mumbai by the cyber wing of the Kolkata police.
The accused, identified as John ( 28) had set up a webpage and advertising for sale of a costly car, reportedly belonging to the French Consulate, with a bargain price up to Rs 25 lakh.
A prospective customer contacted the Nigerian and initially paid him Rs 1.5 lakh as advance. When the Nigerian further demanded Rs 2.7 lakh the prospective customer reported the matter to the French consulate, which immediately contacted Kolkata Police for fraudulent deal.
The French consulate immediately contacted Kolkata Police headquarters at Lalbazar and reported the matter.The cyber wing during investigation came to know the Nigerian was hiding somewhere in Mumbai and arrested him from Navi Mumbai.
The accused was today produced before the Bankshall Court, which remanded him for further custody. (UNI)
