Kolkata, Feb 20: A man(31) drowned while a sexogenarian woman went missing when a sudden wave in Hooghly river swept nine members of a bereaved family at the Nimtala ghat crematorium in north Kolkata, police and divers said today.
While Prasenjit Mazumder died, 62-year-old Mitali Chowhdury was still missing after the deluge, about 15-20 ft high, that swept them from the eastern bank of Nimatala crematorium ghat in the midnight of Monday-Tuesday, sources said.
After the water subsided the divers made a search and found eight people in unconscious state.
While Prasenjit was declared brought dead at a local hospital, three others were in a critical state. They were in ventilator support in the hospital. The woman was still missing as search continued. (UNI)
