Kolkata, Feb 12 : A three-storey brick built building was completely reduced to ashes in a major fire at a plastic chair factory last night, after which five workers were reportedly missing, at Ghola in the northern fringe of the city.
The relatives of the missing workers and local people are on protest demonstration today.
Finance minister and local MLA Amit Mitra said a team comprising disaster management, fire brigade, local police and factory workers will conduct a search to recover any body that could be present inside the destroyed structure.
There would be post-mortem and the government has compensation policy for the victims of such incidents, he added.
An FIR was lodged against the factory owner for not having any fire fighting system.
Local people said they heard explosion sound like bursting of cylinder.
In all 25 fire fighters fought for 20 hours to douse the blaze.(UNI)
