New CBI chief Rishi Shukla likely to rush to Kolkata to assess situation

Agency News

Kolkata, Feb 4 : New CBI chief Rishi Kumar Shukla is likely to come here to take stock of the latest situation after tussle broke out between the Central agency and West Bengal government over questioning of Kolkata Police chief Rajeev Kumar on Sharada chit fund scam.

The development has triggered a confrontation between Delhi and Kolkata. Sources said the newly appointed CBI director would head straight towards CGO Complex at Salt Lake and Nizam Palace in the city from where the CBI's regional offices function.

They said the CBI is also likely to move court to file defamation cases against some top IAS and IPS officials, including state chief secretary, the DGP and city police chief, for allegedly obstructing to carry out government duty and assaulting the CBI officials on Sunday evening.

The CBI's regional office has already sent names of those state officials to its headquarters in New Delhi.

Meanwhile, Union Home Secretary Rajnath Singh has sought a report from the Governor on the development.(UNI)
