CISF nabs foreigner with high volume of foreign currency Kolkata airport

New Delhi, Jan 3 : The Central Industrial Security Force (CISF) on Thursday nabbed a Bangladeshi national carrying high volume of foreign currencies at Netaji Subhas Chandra Bose International airport, Kolkata, an official release said here.

According to CISF, around 1040 hrs on January 3, during pre-embarkation security check (frisking) at Security Hold Area of Kolkata Airport, a duty official detected US dollar, Australian dollars, Canadian cents, Bangladeshi Taka and some Indian currencies from a Bangladeshi national Farman Chowdhury Reza who was bound to Chittagong (Bangladesh) from Kolkata.

“The foreign currencies were concealed in the shoes of the said passenger and on the physical checking, the foreign currencies worth around Rs 20.78 lakhs”, the CISF said.

Apart from foreign currencies, five wrist watches and two Apple mobile phone were also recovered from his possession, the CISF added.

On enquiry, he could not produce any valid document for the presence of high volume of currencies.

Senior officers of CISF and Custom officials were informed.

Later, Farman Chowdhury Reza along-with recovered foreign currency and other valuables was handed over to Customs officials for further action in the matter, the CISF said in statement. (UNI)
