It is learnt that this coming Lok Sabha election, Congress will go alone in West Bengal and will not have any link with Mamata Banerjee’s Trinamool Congress.
According to some congress sources, Rahul Gandhi reportedly gave the ‘go alone’ formula to the party’s West Bengal state unit at a meeting with PCC chief Somen Mitra and West Bengal in-charge Gaurav Gogoi in New Delhi.
After the meeting Mitra said that Rahul had told them to prepare themselves to fight on their own strength in Bengal in the upcoming Lok Sabha polls. West Bengal has 42 Lok Sabha seats — four held by the Congress.
According to Mitra, Rahul also asked the party to start campaigns across the state against both the BJP and TMC in order to protect the state’s secular fabric.
