BJP-sponsored 12-hour “Bangla Bandh” evokes mixed response

Kolkata, Sep 26: Amidst sporadic violence, the BJP-sponsored 12-hour "Bangla Bandh" in protest against the killing of two students at Islampur in North Dinajpur evoked mixed response in the state.

Official sources reported three government buses have been damaged due to stone throwing by the bandh protagonists in different parts of the state. The bandh supporters have taken out processions to impose bandh, while the administration is handling the situation to keep everything normal.

The bandh has also evoked mixed response in North Bengal.At least ten people have been detained by police for trying to impose bandh. However, the roads wear a deserted look in North Bengal and schools, colleges remain closed while business establishments have downed their shutters. The bandh is total at Islampur, the place where the killing took place.

The bandh was called to protest the killing of two students at Islampur ITI college in North Dinajpur. (UNI)
