Kolkata, Sep 11: Scientist and Professor CNR Rao and octogenarian thespian Soumitra Chatterjee were today conferred with honorary D.Litt by the Presidency University at a makeshift convocation venue as the city's premier educational institution campus at College Street was having students’ unrest demanding boarding facility at adjacent Hindu Hostel.
The Presidency College, which turned into India's one of the youngest Universities, for the first time in 200 years of its existence, was forced to shift its convocation venue from campus at College Street to the state government-owned Nandan 3, near Victoria Memorial, owing to students unrest. In Nandan 3 the movies are screened for public.
On Monday the agitating students did not allow VC Anuradha Lohia and the Registrar from the Presidency University to change its convocation venue in south Kolkata and the Chancellor Keshari Nath Tripathi who is also state governor, had asked the VC to conduct the convocation on his behalf. (UNI)
