  1. Ernest Rutherford. The atomic nucleus is the small, dense region consisting of protons and neutrons at the centre of an atom discovered in 1911 by Ernest Rutherford based on the 1909 Geiger-Marsden gold foil experiment.
  2. Vasco da Gama, a Portuguese explorer in1947-48. He hired in Kenya an unnamed Indian navigator who directed the journey from east coast of Africa to what is now Kozhikode, Kerala.
  3. Charles Wilkes, American explorer was the first to identify the land in 1838. On January 19, 1840 he was in command of United States Exploring Expedition and discovered the continent of Antarctica.
  4. Frederick A. Cook, an American explorer who had seemingly returned from the dead after more than a year in the Arctic and claimed to have reached the Pole in April 1908 – a full year before Peary.
