In a shocking incident that took place at a boarding school at Dehradun, Times of India has reported that a 12 year old boarder, Vasu Yadav was bullied and killed by his seniors and in a cover up, the school buried his body without even informing his parents. The Class 12 seniors had used cricket bats and wickets to thrash the young boy to death.
News of the incident has shocked everyone especially the education community at Dehradun. This comes after the other shocking incident of the gang rape of a minor in another boarding school at Dehradun a month ago. What is most shocking is the collusion of the school authorities who in a bid to cover up the murder had buried the victim in the school campus without sending it for post mortem or even informing the parents.
The police said that after the boy had been beaten severely, the senior boys had left him there for a few hours until the body was found by the Warden late in the evening. The authorities delayed in getting medical aid and after he was declared dead, they hastily buried him in a cover up operation. All these lapses on the part of the school authorities have now come out. The timely intervention Uttarakhand State Commission Chairperson for Protection of Child’s Rights, Usha Negi has helped the case come into public domain, else all possible steps were being taken by the school authorities to suppress the incident.
A case has been registered against 3 school staff members- the hostel manager, warden and the physical education master under IPC 201 while the 2 senior boys were booked for murder under IPC 302. Investigations are underway.
