Dehradun, Sep 3: At least 14 people were killed when a tempo-traveller fell into the Bhagirathi river in Uttarakhand's Uttarkashi district, following a landslide on Monday.
District Disaster Management officer Devendra Patwal told UNI that the incident occurred on the Rishikesh-Gangotri highway, when the driver of the van carrying about 15 people, lost control following landslide which brought a heap of debris on the road.
All the bodies, including three of women, have been recovered from the river. While a girl succumbed to her injuries when being rushed to Dehradun for treatment, another is battling for life in a hospital, officials said.
The deceased have been identified as Jasoda Devi(40), wife of Jaidev, Akash (20) son of Jaidev, Ranveer Sinh (45), Jagdish(55), his wife Rampyari(50), Ramveer (45) , Sakla Devi(40), Avtar Singh (55), Deerendhra Singh (50), Sovendra Siongh (40), Deepak(22), Vachan singh(50), and driver Satveer Singh.
Uttarakhand Governor Baby Rani Maurya and Chief Minister Trivendra Singh Rawat have expressed grief over the accident and condoled the bereaved.UNI
