Thunderstorm wreaks havoc in Agra

Agra, May 30 : The city of Taj Mahal, Agra was hit by a severe thunderstorm on Friday evening damaging the railing made of marble of the main mausoleum at Taj Mahal.

As per reports more than 200 trees were uprooted at different places in Agra and also three people killed and 25 injured due to the thunderstorm that wreaked havoc in Agra, which is already dealing with the maximum number of COVID19 positive cases in the state.

Earlier in 2018, two pillars and stones fell in the Taj Mahal. On April 11 and May 2, in 2018, the Royal Gate, the North-West Guldasta pillar of the South Gate collapsed, Guldasta pillars also had fallen in the tombs of Sirhindi Begum and Fatehpuri Begum.

A new arrangement was made last year at the main entrance of the Taj Mahal where Automatic gates were installed which opened with the tokens. Metal detector machines were also installed on each gate, they too have collapsed.

UP CM Yogi Adityanath has taken cognizance of the issue and has announced Rs 4 lakh ex gratia for the deceased in the thunderstorm in Agra last evening. CM Yogi has also directed officials to ensure best treatment to all those injured due to thunderstorms in Agra. (UNI)
