Palghar, May 27 : A 53-year-old woman reportedly died after waiting for long hours in the queue for getting a token to travel on the Shramik Special train, police said here on Wednesday. The deceased has been identified as Vidothama Shukla, resident of Nalasopara suburb in this district, who wanted to board an Uttar Pradesh-bound train for Jaunpur.
According to police, the woman, along with her family, traveled a distance of around five km on Tuesday, so as to reach Vasai's Sun City grounds, where the tokens were being given. Having a medical history of diabetes and blood pressure, Vidothama lined up behind 15,000 people, who had already formed a serpentine queue and waited anxiously to get the token.
After standing for several hours in the scorching sun, she felt uneasy at around 1700 hrs. Subsequently, it was decided to take her to hospital, but she died on the way to hospital. A case of accidental death has been registered with the Manikpur police station, apprised senior Inspector Rajendra Kamble. (UNI)
