Lucknow, May 27 : In a rare feat, a 34-year-old Novel Coronavirus patient, who was also found HIV positive and had sustained a head injury during an accident, was totally cured and has been discharged from the King George's Medical University (KGMU), here. KGMU Vice-Chancellor Dr MLB Bhatt said it was the first instance of an HIV positive patient down with COVID-19, recovering at the hospital. He said the 34-year-old patient, who was going from Delhi to Gonda, sustained a head injury in an accident and was rushed to KGMU.
''After he was admitted to KGMU, we learnt that he was HIV as well as COVID-19 positive. He was admitted to the IDH at KGMU and in mere six days, he defeated the lethal Coronavirus,” he said. Dr Bhatt said the head injury had caused additional problems because the man had developed mental conditions and wanted to run away from the hospital. ''However, his mental condition was normal at the time of his discharge and his head injury was also taken care of,'' the KGMU VC added. Dr Bhatt said it brings a ray of hope for the medical fraternity as well as people. ''HIV weakens the immune system and hence, the recovery brings in a lot of hope for COVID patients, as well as doctors,'' he added. (UNI)
