Lucknow, May 16: In view of the coronavirus pandemic, the work for the National Population Register (NPR) 2021 has been postponed till further notice in Uttar Pradesh. The outbreak of COVID-19 pandemic has forced government authorities to restrict public gatherings and advised people to stay indoors. Amid such a scenario, the government has also halted or temporarily stalled work on various projects, including NPR till further orders.
Principal Secretary General Administration Jitendra Kumar in an order to all the districts on Friday night said that the first phase work of the NPR 2021 is suspended till further orders. The first phase of the NPR was slated to start from Friday and was scheduled to be completed on September 30. Earlier too, the Union Home Ministry had also advised the states not to go ahead with the NPR work owing to coronavirus pandemic. In the first phase, the government was slated to record the name, address, family members and native place in the register. (UNI)
