Rains, thunder storm struck UP : 8 killed

Lucknow,May 10 : Rains, thunderstorms and strong winds on Sunday evening turned the weather pleasant while eight people were killed. According to sources, four died in Kasganj , two in Mainpuri, and one each in Etah and Etawah were killed in the hail storm. The city recorded a maximum temperature of 35.9 degree Celsius which was 3.3 degree below normal and a minimum temperature of 25.6 degree Celsius which was 1.5 degrees above normal. A normal hot day saw a sudden change in the evening with showers and thunderstorms preceded by a dust storm.

The skies turned completely dark in the evening. Director, Met Office J P Gupta said that the rains were caused because of the western disturbance over Jammu and Kashmir and a cyclonic circulation over Rajasthan. Mr Gupta said that the forecast was for the probability of rains at the state capital. The local forecast was mainly clear skies in the morning turning cloudy in the evening. Rain and thunderstorms was very likely in some areas. The maximum and minimum temperature would be around 38 degree Celsius and 24 degree Celsius respectively.

The state forecast is rain, thunderstorms very likely at a few places over the state. There is warning for thunderstorm, dust storm, lightning, hailstorm accompanied with squalls up to 50- 60 kmph very likely at a few places over the state. Meanwhile, Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath has directed the district authorities to provide relief to people affected by the rain and thunderstorm that struck several parts of the state . He announced Rs four lakh each to the families of the victims killed in the hail storm. (UNI)
