UP: nCoV cases surge to 1507, Sr officials rushed to monitor situation

Lucknow, Apr 23: Taking serious note over the rising number of positive cases of Coronavirus in the state, Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath on Thursday directed senior administrative and health officers to rush to the districts where there are 20 or more COVID-19 patients to monitor the preparation and arrangements done to counter the coronavirus pandemic.

Meanwhile the number of positive cases in the state on Thursday rose to 1507. So far 187 have recovered and 21 have lost their lives. State additional Chief Secretary (Home) Awnish Awasthi told reporters here that one senior administrative and one health officer will rush to the districts on Friday where there are 20 or more Covid 19 patients .

"There are 15 number of such districts in the state but Gautam Buddha Nagar district already has a senior official hence these officials would visit the remaining 14 districts and camp there for a week," he said while adding that these officials will check the facilities and the medical arrangements besides take stock of the preparation of the district in countering the pandemic. He said that in some districts where there are no senior police officials at the rank of Inspector General (IG) , there too a senior police official would be rushed along with administrative and health officials. On the other hand state principal secretary health Amit Mohan Prasad said that though the number of positive cases have gone up to 1507 but there are only 1299 active cases in 45 districts of the state. He said among the positive cases , 938 are of the Tablighi Jamaat and their contacts. Mr Prasad claimed that the state has increased its testing capacity and on Wednesday 3955 tests were done against the sample collection of 3737 thus clearing the backlog.

He also claimed that UP has become the third state from seventh in the number of cumulative tests in the country. "Pool tests have started in four labs in the state and yesterday 812 samples were tested," he added. "The number of patients in isolation beds are 1584 and in facility quarantine are 11,826 ," the official added. (UNI)
