Lockdown: Two Imams among 22 booked in UP

Bulandshahr, Mar 27: A case was registered against 22 people, including two Imams, for offering prayers in Mosques despite the nationwide lockdown in the Jahangirabad and Dibai towns in this district of Uttar Pradesh, police said on Friday.

Senior Superintendent of Police Santosh Kumar said ignoring repeated warnings, around two dozen people were offering 'namaz' at a Mosque situated in Mohalla Kayastha Bara of Jahangirabad.

Upon receiving information, when police station In-charge reached the spot, the people fled from the spot. Meanwhile, the Imam Nazir Ahmed who was offering prayers was arrested and a case registered against 21 people.

In a similar incident, several people were offering prayers at a Mosque situated in Kaser Kala village in the Dibai area. When the police reached the spot, the people fled from there. Police was bringing the Imam after arresting him but upon strong resistance from people, the cops let him go. (UNI)
