Azamgarh, Feb 12 : Congress general secretary Priyanka Gandhi Vadra on Wednesday met the people injured in police action during the recent anti-CAA and NRC protests in Bilariyaganj area. "You all have been wronged. We have to stand against this injustice. This government is entirely against the poor," she said while consoling the women and others who faced police atrocities during the protests recently.
Ms Gandhi also assured that the Congress will continue to fight for the people and support their agitation against the CAA/NRC. "It is our duty to know your problem and take it up with the government at all the levels," she said while interacting with the women. She also patted the children, who came along with their mothers.
On her way to Azamgarh, she also stopped to meet students and spoke to them regarding their problems. Ms Vadra reached Bilariyaganj at around 1300 hrs and she walked about 200 meters before reaching the venue Salim-ke-ahate. However, there was confusion after police refused to give entry to the media and Congress leaders at the venue. At this, the party workers raised slogans against the police. Priyanka was accompanied by UP Congress president Ajay Kumar Lalu, Ajay Rai, and other senior leaders.
She was also given a rousing welcome at the Varanasi airport on her arrival from New Delhi this morning. Her visit assumes significance as recently Congress workers had put up posters questioning Samajwadi Party chief and Azamgarh MP Akhilesh Yadav's silence on the police action over antiCAA protests.
