Lucknow, Feb 9: Bahujan Samaj Party(BSP) supremo Mayawati has lambasted the Samajwadi Party, its ally in the last Lok Sabha polls, for its alleged casteist mindset for changing the name of Sant Ravidas Nagar district to Bhadoi district.

The Sant Ravidas Nagar district was created in 1994 after it was separated from the Varanasi district, in 2014 the Akhilesh Yadav led state government renamed it as Bhadoi. "We had named Bhadoi district after the great saint Sant Ravidas during our regime in UP but the SP government changed it to its original Bhadoi, showing their castist mentality" said Mayawati. She resolved to revert the district's name back to Sant Ravidas Nagar district whenever BSP comes back to power in the state.

Wishing the people on the birth anniversary of Sant Ravidas on Sunday, the BSP president alleged that the political parties and their leaders have forgotten the path shown by the great saint and are just trying to take political mileage by preaching the teachings of Sant Ravidas, who had directed his followers to serve society without expecting anything in return. "BSP has always followed the ideologies of the saint and had done everything during its regime to propagate the preaching of Sant Ravidas," she said in a press note here on Sunday.

The BSP leader also demanded that the state government should set up a statue of the Saint in Varanasi, his birthplace besides a park and a ghar should be named on him. She also demanded that a polytechnic in Chaundali should be named after the saint and a Dharamsala dedicated to him should be construct in Badaun. (UNI)
