Hindi writer Giriraj Kishore passes away in Kanpur

Kanpur, Feb 9 : Novelist and Padma Shri Giriraj Kishore died due to a massive heart attack at his Shooterganj house, here on Sunday. He was 83 and survived by his wife, two daughters and a son. Family members here said that Giriraj had suffered a massive heart attack at around 9.30 am and died instantaneously.

The last rites would be performed on Monday and Giriraj's body would be donated to the medical college, as per his last wish. Giriraj had penned several popular Hindi novels, along with dramas and plays. In 1992, Giriraj was awarded the Sahitya Academy Puraskar.

His novel "First Girimitiya," based on Mahatma Gandhi's stay in South Africa, got critical acclaim and went on to become a bestseller. UP Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath expressed his grief on his sudden demise. (UNI)
