Kannauj, Jan 11: At least ten people were killed and several others critically injured when a bus hit a truck in this district of Uttar Pradesh on Friday night, police said.
The accident occurred on the GT Road near Chibramua, in which both vehicles turned into balls of fire after collision.
Ten passengers of the bus managed to escape and 21 were rescued by the local villagers and police.
Inspector General of Police (Kanpur range) Mohit Agarwal told reporters here on Saturday that the bodies were badly burnt, bones scattered, so only a DNA test would determine the death toll.
"Prima facie bodies of 8-10 people seem to be on the bus but the damage is so extensive that casualties can be determined only through DNA test," he said.
The IG said there were around 45 people in the bus. "21 people were rescued, 12 of them admitted at Medical College Tirwa and 11 at District hospital while 2 people were completely safe and were sent home. But still 18 to 20 passenger of the bus are missing, maybe they died but it is not certain yet," he further said.
The bus coming from Farukhabad and going to Jaipur, hit the truck which was coming on the wrong direction and in the collision, the fuel tank of the truck exploded.
Nine skeletons were recovered from the bus and one from the truck. Of the injured, the condition of 13 was stated to be critical while 10 children were among the injured.(UNI)
