Lucknow, Oct 25 : The Uttar Pradesh unit of Congress on Friday claimed that the downfall of BJP has started in the state as well as in the country and Congress was becoming the alternative.
"The results of two Assembly state polls and bypolls in the country vindicate our claim that BJP is now on a downfall trend," claimed senior Congress leader and former Rajya Sabha member Pramod Tiwari here. Addressing a press conference here, along with UP Congress Secretary Shahnawaz Alam, Mr Tiwari said that just after five months of the Lok Sabha polls, the condition of BJP was critical and people of the country were refusing to accept their leadership.
"In the entire country, bypolls were held in 53 places, but BJP just won in 15 places, which shows how the people are treating them," he added.
The Congress leader, terming about the misuse of official machinery in Gangoh Assembly bypolls in UP, said the party would approach the Election Commission to make them aware about how the BJP government misused the officials to win the elections.
He further claimed that in UP, the poll percentage of Congress has gone up by 14 per cent, while of BJP, it decreased by 13.92 per cent. "It shows that the BJP vote bank is fast shifting towards Congress in the state," he added.
In Gangoh Assembly bypolls of Saharanpur district, the Congress candidate was leading till the 27th round, but suddenly, the party leaders alleged that they were asked to leave the counting centers and immediately, the BJP candidate was announced the winner.
Talking about Haryana Assembly polls, Mr Tiwari claimed that Prime Minister Narendra Modi addressed seven election meetings there, but all BJP candidates lost their elections, where he campaigned.
