Hamirpur, Sep 27: BJP candidate Yuvraj Singh on Friday, taken a lead of around 1020 votes after the third round of counting for the Hamirpur Assembly polls held on September 23.
The counting of votes for the bypolls commenced at 8am amid tight security arrangements. According to the officials, after the third round of counting, BJP candidate Yuvraj Singh was leading by 1020 votes against the nearest Samajwadi Party rival Manoj Kumar Prajapati. The Congress candidate was on the third sport and BSP on the fourth.The result is expected by late afternoon.
Around 51 per cent of the over four lakh voters had exercised their franchise in the Assembly elections, which was incident free amid marred by rains and poll boycott. The fate of nine candidates would be decided in the bypolls, which went vacant after BJP MLA Ashok Kumar Singh Chandel was convicted in a 22-year-old murder case.
The nine candidates contesting for the Hamirpur seat include BJP’s Yuvraj Singh, Congress' Hardeepak Nishad, Samajwadi Party’s Manoj Kumar Prajapati, Bahujan Samaj Party’s Naushad Ali and Communist Party of India’s Alam Mansuri. (UNI)
