Lucknow, Aug 31: The Samajwadi Party on Saturday announced Chowdhury Indresen as its candidate for the bypoll to the Gangoh Assembly seat in Saharanpur district on Saturday.
The Election Commission is yet to announce the poll schedule for the Assembly constituency. Indresen is the son of Chowdhury Yashpal Singh, veteran Congress leader, who was Cabinet Minister in Vishwanath Pratap Singh government in 1980 and later, became Congress MP from Saharanpur in 1985.
The Gangoh Assembly seat was vacated by BJP MLA Pradeep Chowdhary, following his election to the Lok Sabha from Kairana Lok Sabha seat in Shamli district. Gangoh Assembly seat is one of the assembly segments falling in Kairana Lok Sabha constituency.
The bypoll is due in 13 Assembly seats in UP. Among all the parties, only the Bahujan Samaj Party has announced its candidates for all 13 Assembly seats.
The EC has, so far announced poll schedule only for one Assembly seat Hamirpur in Bundelkhand region. The by-election in Hamirpur has been caused by the conviction of sitting BJP MLA Ashok Chandel in a murder case. He was automatically disqualified from the membership of the Assembly, following his conviction. (UNI)
