Saharanpur, Aug 18 : A journalist of a Hindi daily and his brother were shot dead by the assailants under Kotwali police station area in Madhav Nagar on Sunday.
According to police, two families had a fight over throwing of cow dung. Later, journalist Ashish Janwani, working in the Hindi daily 'Dainik Jagran', along with his younger brother, were shot dead by the neighbour, who runs a dairy.
The assailants, identified as Mahipal Saini and his son Gaurav Saini, managed to flee, but police detained two women of their family.
Senior police officials were on the spot, while irate people were holding a protest.
The slain journalist was the only earning member of his family, whose father had died some years back, while his wife was pregnant.
Meanwhile, Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath expressed grief over the killing of the journalist and his brother over a petty dispute.
"SSP Saharanpur has been directed of the strongest action. The government stands by the bereaved family in this moment of grief. The government has announced an ex-gratia of five lakh each for the deceased," an official spokesperson of the Chief Minister said in Lucknow.(UNI)
