Rampur, Aug 16 : After registering around 50 criminal cases against Samajwadi Party MP Mohammad Azam Khan, the Rampur district authorities on Friday demolished the boundary wall of his 'Humsafar Resort'.
Two excavators were engaged in pulling down the wall constructed over a nullah of the irrigation department, officials here said here. A large contingent of police was also deployed to prevent any law and order problem during the demolition.
The state Irrigation department had served a couple of notices to the SP leader asking him to vacate the its land.
There were allegations that the SP leader had grabbed around 9000 sq ft of the Irrigation department land for his resort, located near Mohammad Ali Jauhar University, during the previous Samajwadi Party regime.
Rampur district authorities had registered around 50 criminal cases against Khan and his family on different issues. On July 29, he was declared land mafia, following a series of cases against him in connection with the grabbing of government and agricultural land owned by poor farmers.
The Enforcement Department (ED) is also probing alleged money laundering charges related to donations from abroad in the account of Khan's private university - the Mohammad Ali Jauhar University. (UNI)
