Unnao rape survivor, lawyer still critical: KGMU doctors

Agency News

Lucknow, Aug 1: The condition of Unnao rape survivor and her lawyer undergoing treatment at King George Medical University hospital continued to be critical, a KGMU bulletin said here on Thursday.

KGMU PRO Dr Sandeep Tiwari said both-- the victim and the lawyer-- are on ventilator. Lawyer Mahendra Singh, who was earlier responding to the treatment and taken off the life support system, was put back on it.

Released at around 12noon, the bulletin said the condition of the two continued to be critical and they are on ventilator. Their condition was same as yesterday and stable. The treatment of the two was being done free of cost by expert doctors. The girl had suffered multiple fractures in legs besides injuries on head and chest.

Though the victim's CT scan did not detect any major head injury, the doctors were keeping her under observation. Meanwhile, a close relative of the injured lawyer was admitted to the Trauma centre on late Wednesday night after he complained of chest pain.

The cremation of the victim's aunty killed in the accident was performed at her native village in Barabanki. The preliminary probe by the CBI in the Rae Bareli accident in which the victim and her lawyer were critically injured and her two aunts killed on Sunday, revealed that the truck was coming from a wrong side and hit the car during heavy rains.

The 12-member team of CBI, led by SP Raghvendra Vatsa, also checked the speedometer of both the vehicles said while the truck was moving at a speed of around 80 KMPH, the car was speeding at 100 KMPH at the time of the collision.
The CBI also recorded statements of two eye witnesses-- both shopkeepers-- and interrogated the driver and cleaner of the truck, currently lodged in the Rae Bareli jail. The CBI sleuths are also slated to interrogate the jailed MLA besides nine other accused named in the FIR. (UNI)
