Jaunpur, Jul 9 : Seven drug peddlers were arrested and 'ganja' worth 2 crore rupees recovered from their possession by the Special Task Force (STF) in this district of Uttar Pradesh, police sources said on Tuesday.
According to the sources, the STF had received information that Jaunpur is being used as a center by those supplying 'ganja' brought from Orissa and other states, in Purvanchal. Based on the information, the Lucknow STF team did a recce at various spots in Jaunpur for two-three days.
The team arrested seven peddlers on Monday night and recovered the narcotic substance worth Rs 2 crore from their possession. Among the arrested, five are from Jaunpur and the other two hail from Sultanpur district. The arrested peddlers have been identified as Dhirendra Pratap Singh alias Chandan Singh, Manoj Kumar, Amit Kumar Singh alias Rajan, Subhash Singh, Utsav Singh alias Mangal who hail from the Jaunpur district while Anil Kumar and Salim Sheikh originally hail from Sultanpur district.
Apart from the 'ganja.' two cars used for smuggling drugs, 3,000 rupees cash, 10 mobile phones, 4 Aadhar Cards, two voter id cards, a driving license, an ATM card has been recovered from the possession of the accused.(UNI)
