Lucknow, Jun 17 : Alleging that Bharatiya Janata Party's (BJP) claims to double the income of farmers were far away from reality, Samajwadi party (SP) president Akhilesh Yadav said the amount deposited in the account of farmers just before the Lok Sabha elections was reverting to the government.
Mr Yadav here on Monday said farmers were distressed in the BJP government regime and they were compelled to commit suicide due to wrong policies and fake promises of the BJP government. BJP government had announced several attractive schemes but only for political reasons and nothing happened on the ground.
Mr Yadav said sugarcane farmers were facing more bad days as even after sugarcane crushing season, payments of farmers were not cleared. More than Rs 10343 crores of sugarcane farmers were pending, he pointed out, adding that government failed to take action against mill owners.
SP president alleged that BJP focusses on welfare of corporate houses more than farmers, poor and backwards. He said the government was importing sugar from other countries and ignoring the plight of sugarcane farmers.
