Kanpur youth dies in police jeep mishap, 2 cops suspended

Kanpur, Jun 5: A youth was killed after a sub-inspector's jeep allegedly rammed him in Kalyanpur area in the district, police sources said on Wednesday.
Subsequently, two policemen, including the sub-inspector, were suspended.
According to the sources, Rajat aka Bittu of Rawatpur village was sleeping outside his home on Tuesday night. A patrolling jeep of the Kalyanpur police station passing the area around 1.45 am lost control hit an electric post and the his cot.

By the time neighbours gathered, the cops fled the scene.
Police, who arrived later, rushed Rajat to a hospital in a critical state where the doctors declared him brought-dead.
Numerous people then gathered and tried to set the police jeep on fire.
Senior Superintendent of Police Anant Dev assured the people of a strict action.

Prima facie, the two police officials were found guilty and suspended.

District Magistrate Vijay Vishwas Pant said that apart from the Chief Minister's Relief Fund, the victim's family would be provided appropriate assistance.
Bharatiya Janata Party MP Satyadev Pachauri who reached the spot said that the family of the victim would be provided Rs 25 lakh rupees through public co-operation. Along with this, a grant aid will also be provided to the deceased's unmarried sisters for their wedding.
