Lucknow, May 20 : Against the backdrop of the exit polls predicting BJP retaining the power at the Centre, the Mahagathbandhan leaders in Uttar Pradesh met here on Monday to discuss the possible political 'fallout' after the May 23 counting of votes.
Samajwadi party president Akhilesh Yadav rushed to the residence of BSP supremo Mayawati here this noon for a meeting which lasted for about 75 minutes. There was no official word on the agenda of discussions held between both the leaders.
However, after the meeting Akhilesh Yadav, only said, "You will have to wait till May 23," to the media waiting outside Mayawati's residence.
Though both the leaders are expected to be in the National Capital in the evening and attend the opposition meeting on Tuesday, but the leaders of both the parties are tight lipped about their next move.
According to sources, Mr Yadav had a long discussion with Mayawati at her Mall Avenue residence where they deliberated over the exit poll predictions and the possibility of a third front government at the centre. They also exchanged messages of Andhra Pradesh chief minister Chandra Babu Naidu, who recently met them in Lucknow separately over the formation of a third front government.
The exit polls have given mixed reports about the SP-BSP alliance in the state with some predicting good results while others saying that it did not clicked. Earlier, the media report of Mayawati meeting UPA chairperson Sonia Gandhi in Delhi on Monday turned out to be fake.
"Mayawati ji has no programme or meetings scheduled in Delhi today, she will be in Lucknow," said BSP general secretary Satish Chandra Mishra. (UNI)
